Amanda Gurney

2nd Grade

Biography

Mrs. Amanda Gurney earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Mississippi University for Women in 2001 and soon thereafter began teaching 3rd grade at a private Christian school in her hometown. In 2004, she moved to London, England where she completed her Post-Graduate Teacher Training from University of Greenwich and taught Early Childhood Development at college level.

Being a role model for young people has been something Mrs. Gurney has been involved with from very early on. Throughout college, she worked in youth ministry, sharing her love for Christ and being heavily involved with local missions. It wasn’t until she had the opportunity to teach 3rd grade that she realized her passion for teaching and instilling a spark within children to crave learning was something she has a real passion for. After ten years living and teaching abroad, Mrs. Gurney along with her husband Darren and seven year old twins, Evelyn & Addison made the move ‘across the pond’ to Concord, NC where they have been living since 2014. During her first year back, she was eager to return to a teaching setting in elementary and began substitute teaching. Mrs. Gurney is now thrilled to be a part of the GCA team!

Why GCA?

Mrs. Gurney feels there is something super special about having the opportunity to teach a Christ-centered education to children. Combining her two loves – God & teaching, she says, “It really doesn’t get much better than that!”
