Early Education PK & Performing Arts
Mrs. Katy Shepherd is beyond excited to begin her 4th year at GCA! She knew by the age of 6 that she had to be a teacher, because she didn’t think there could ever be a better job! She is constantly amazed at how drama and music reaches children in a way that nothing else can and hopes to use her performing arts position to instill confidence and creativity in her students. She believes that her theatrical background will translate well in the Pre-K setting and feels so blessed to have the opportunity to help some of our youngest learners grow!
Mrs. Shepherd grew up in farmland outside of South Bend, IN. She holds a BA in Theatre Arts from Bethel College in Mishawaka, IN. She spent 10 years traveling the country as a professional actor and Teaching Artist, but relocated to Charlotte with her husband in 2014. In her travels, she acted on many stages and was also the Resident Teaching Artist and Education Associate for Greenbrier Valley Theatre in Lewisburg, WV, developed a summer education program for Two Roads Education Arts and Theatre in Fairfield, IA, and is currently a Teaching Artist for various levels and ages (Pre K-12th grade) in acting, music, and dance at Children’s Theatre of Charlotte. You also might catch her on the stage at Children’s Theatre from time to time! Mrs. Shepherd’s beautiful family consists of her amazing husband and their four rescue girls: Cecily, Nellie, Lily, and Molly-A kitty and 3 puppies! They are adding to their zoo in 2019, but this time it will be a human baby!
The simple and beautiful answer is that God truly called me to be at GCA. Working at GCA is one of the clearest callings from God that I have ever received!
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
